Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD)

The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard:of:hearing students in nursery school through high school. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60 percent of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.

Salary Information:

The salary for this role is commensurate with experience.

About the Job: 13;

The School Psychologist works individually and as part of a multidisciplimary evaluation team to find the best solution students and their situation at ISD and throughout Indiana. This role uses differing strategies including review of records, staffings, observations, assessments and case conference participation to address student needs and to improve school support systems. This individual consults with school staff and parents about effective teaching and learning strategies; techniques to manage behavior at home and in the classroom; working with students with disabilities or special talents and managing crisis.

A Day in the Life: 13;

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

:Collaborate with teachers, parents and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems through meetings, staffings and case conferences;
:Help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior;
:Strengthen working relationships between teachers, parents, and service providers in the community;
:Evaluate eligibility for special services;
:Assess academic skills and aptitude for learning;
:Determine social:emotional developmental and mental health status through personality testing;
:Evaluate learning environments;
:Prepare written reports for those students tested;
:Provide psychological counseling to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance;
:Work directly with children and their families to help resolve problems in adjustment and learning;
:Promote tolerance, understanding and appreciation of diversity within the school community;
:Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to provide services directed at improving psychological and physical health;
:Develop partnerships with parents and teachers to promote healthy school environments;
:Evaluate the effectiveness of academic and behavior management programs;
:Use evidence:based research to develop and/or recommend effective interventions

Select the appropriate testing procedure according to the childs cognitive and sensory abilities;

Clearly and professionally report all pertinent information regarding psychological and educational issues in accordance with current legislation;
