Job Description
The Custom Scale-Up Group within the Medicinal Chemistry Department in Boston is seeking an energetic, results-oriented individual with a positive attitude, strong motivation, and an attention to detail. The position requires a passion for learning, strong communication, a willingness to work under tight deadlines, and outstanding organizational skills. This individual will synthesize starting materials, intermediates, and drug substance for preclinical studies. The individual will provide records of the procedures used and be responsible for the characterization of these compounds using standard analytical techniques.
Responsibilities:
Design and execute synthetic routes at mg to Kg scale in a non-GMP setting
Deliver drug substance and intermediates for internal stakeholders on a timeline and within target specifications
Work with the Medchem Scale-up Director and Process safety specialists to ensure safe operation of the chemistry
Maintain high-quality records within an electronic notebook
Communicate effectively within group and department-level meetings by sharing results and to contributing to project strategy
Requirements:
PhD in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry, with 4 plus years of post-doctoral/industrial experience
Master’s Degree with 6 plus years’ experience, Bachelor’s Degree with 8 plus years’ experience (industry experience preferred)
Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Display a flexible approach to a variety of reaction scales and shifting priorities
Comfortable working with large equipment
Ability to multi-task to deliver on multiple targets simultaneously
Experience using analytical techniques and equipment (NMR, LC/MS, HPLC, GC, XRPD)
Experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and NMR analysis software
Scale-up experience is ideal but not required. Training can be provided but the successful candidate must be motived to learn the techniques and strategies for conducting chemistry on a large scale.
