SUMMARY:The Humane Society of Central Texas is dedicated to ensuring that every animal at the Waco Animal Shelter finds a loving home through foster, adoption, or rescue. We are seeking an energetic Rescue Coordinator to play a pivotal role in saving the lives of the most urgent animals at the shelter. This person will create and maintain relationships with non-profit rescue partners, locally and all over the country, who will rescue both highly adoptable as well as more challenging animals from our shelter. The Rescue Coordinator will manage housing and transport logistics associated with transferring animals into the care of the rescues, and utilize Excel and other shelter-specific databases on a daily basis. The Rescue Coordinator must be a true team player experienced with handling animals and assessing their behavior, as well as highly effective at social media, community outreach, and interacting with volunteers and the public. They must have exceptional communication skills, be able to maintain strict confidentiality, and be willing to dedicate themselves to the mission of the organization.

Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of the Rescue Program.
Maintain a database of non-profit rescue partners with whom we work, including their specific missions, guidelines, and goals for the animals they rescue, as well as contact information.
Contact existing non-profit rescue partners to request that they rescue specific urgent animals from our shelter.
Take photos and videos of animals, and utilize social media to showcase available animals.
Work with the HSCTX Canine Behavior and Enrichment Specialist to assess dog behavior.
Arrange housing and transport logistics for animals going to distant rescue partners.
Transport animals to local rescue partners as needed in a company vehicle.
Assist rescue partners with loading and unloading animals.
Utilize shelter software to indicate a rescue?s interest in an animal.
Establish relationships with non-profit rescue organizations who we have not worked with previously.
Provide assistance to the Adoption and Foster Coordinators as needed by showing animals to prospective adopters and fosters, and entering data into the shelter database.
Request assistance from the Adoption and Foster Coordinators as needed to support Rescue Program activities.
Provide weekly reports to the Executive Director about rescue activities using Microsoft Excel and Word.
Work as a strong team member for the mission of the organization by attending team meetings, acting professionally, participating in training, and providing support to others as needed.
Participate in on-site and off-site adoption and foster events to promote our rescue partnerships.
Train and manage volunteers to support the Rescue Program.
Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required qualifications and skills
Positive attitude with a desire to work with others and help animals
Experience handling animals
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Experience taking photos and videos, and extensive use of social media
High level interpersonal skills to work with rescue partners, colleagues, veterinarians, volunteers, and the public
Exceptional organizational and problem solving skills, including ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time
Must be resourceful, proactive, and flexible, needing little supervision
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, or able to learn them quickly
Ability to learn animal shelter and volunteer management software
Ability to manage emotionally charged situations
Commitment to inclusion and appreciation for diversity in all forms
Willing to work weekends, holidays, and varying shift times.
Willing to work in an office space with animals present, which may involve tolerating smells and sounds.
Ability to pass a background check

Preferred qualifications and skills
High school diploma or equivalent
Bilingual English/Spanish
Program management experience, including supervising staff and logistics
Ability to diplomatically advocate for animals
Experience training and managing volunteers
Clean valid drivers? license to be able to drive a shelter vehicle

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, sit on the floor, sit at a desk, lift up to 50 pounds, and get animals safely in and out of kennels to show to the public and to load in and out of vehicles. It also requires working outside in intense and varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
