Psychology Position in the Neonatal Follow:up Program at Buerger (Main campus) :
The role of the Psychologist is to carry out psychological and developmental assessment of infants and young children enrolled through Neonatal Follow:Up Programs and to provide support for the families of these children. The Neonatal Follow:up Program (NFP) is made up of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, social worker, physical therapists and psychologists. This current posting is for NFP at Buerger which enrolls infants from the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at CHOP and Hospital of University of Pennsylvania (HUP). NFP provides services to those children who were born prematurely or have other neonatal illnesses and spent time in the CHOP or affiliated NICUs. The services include full developmental and psychological assessments, medical, physical and neuro:motor evaluations by medical staff and parent support through screening and social work counseling.

The role of the psychologist includes performing assessments, in:depth interpretation of assessments and findings which include coordination of medical, family and environmental history, providing appropriate feedback to family at the time of the visit, giving support and advice to families seen through the program regarding developmental, behavioral and other concerns for both at home activities and referrals to community services, and preparing reports for parents, community agencies/schools, and healthcare colleagues documenting findings, impressions, diagnoses and recommendations. Children in NFP range in age from 6 months to 6 years. Assessment battery is standardized with individualizations to meet the needs of specific children. The role of the psychologist will also include participation in interdisciplinary team meetings, participation in quality improvement projects, research visits as needed and collaboration with other psychologists in the program. There are opportunities for research and quality improvement projects as well.

The Psychologist I provides psychological services to patients throughout the CHOP inpatient and ambulatory enterprise;participates in the educational experience of trainees; establishes plan and initiates professional growth and leadership within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and presents work at the local or regional level. In some settings, the psychologist may have a matrixed reporting relationship to a physician leader outside the Department.

Clinical Activity

: Practices effectively as an independent clinician.
: Responsive to feedback from supervisors and colleagues about clinical practice.
: Provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services to children and families,in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, and communicates with referral sources as indicated
: Perform clinical services at a percent of effort as designated by supervisor.
: Adheres to The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences productivity standards.
: In settings where patients are scheduled into appointments, presents an EPIC schedule that rolls out, per department guidelines, delineating availability and anticipated vacation and conference time. Schedule must include enough openings to cover productivity expectations plus anticipated late cancellations/no shows.
: Assures that professional practice is in accordance with applicable professional and licensing body standards
: Follows all CHOP and Departmental policies and procedures regarding clinical and administrative activity associated with providing direct patient care

:Collaborates within the Department and with other Department/Division colleagues to assure that patients receive the kind of care required
