Successful candidates for this position will work in a lead technical role for a space program in Dulles VA, in the NSS business area within the Space Systems Sector. This is a lead systems engineer role on a large and strategic international partnership effort in providing next generation satellite communications technology. The candidate will be leading bus design trades and accommodations in coordination with NG Sectors
This Systems Engineering role is responsible for leading the Systems Engineering technical team, which includes the following duties: systems analysis and trades, coordinating Vehicle Systems engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V&V management, subcontractor technical oversight, CAM/EVMS duties, preparing/presenting SE material at all major reviews and PMR's and interfacing with the customer and SETA's on all space segment technical issues.

The responsibilities include both individual-contributor and leadership roles, within a multi-disciplined engineering team. Successful candidate will also be called upon to support other activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. In this lead role, the Lead Systems Engineer is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.

Responsibilities:

Lead/Provide major support to the entire program technical team.

Lead and optimize space vehicle design, processing and mission success.

Troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems that the program may encounter.

Develop, author and/or provide input to major program data products and other deliverables.

Technical management of program elements

Planning and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline

Writing status and technical performance reviews and reports
Written and Verbal Communication:

The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation experience and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable technical field
- Systems engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with satellite communications programs
- Experience presenting to customers
- Experience working with a cross-discipline team
