We are looking for a Principal Advisor Environment & Regulatory to join the Kennecott Environment Team. The Principal Advisor - Environment & Regulatory will develop and implement strategies for management of extensive existing regulatory requirements, advocate for the company in navigating new and changing regulations and develop and optimize sustainability programs.

Reporting directly to the Sr. Business Partner Environment, the Principle Advisor Environment & Regulatory facilitates strategic management of team planning, leads the coordination of advocacy on forward looking federal and state regulation and legislation, and leads the coordination of short- and long-term sustainability planning. The purpose of this role is to set the vision and engage in strategies that protect, maintain, and secure flexible mining and processing activities and creates incremental value and reduces risk. Principle Advisor Environment & Regulatory manages relationships with key external stakeholders in order to deliver those strategies. This work is performed with attention to supporting the immediate team while facing increasingly stringent requirements (both social and legal) with constrained resources. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Establish and communicate short and long-term vision and function of Regulatory and Sustainability plans including measurable, objectives and targets.

· Coordinate regular communications to the business through HSE, Legal, Community Relations, Energy Group, Operations, etc.

· Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal obligations and company policy.

· Provide mentoring, coaching and assistance with career development for team members.

· Lead the Environment team in annual strategic planning to meet Rio Tinto, Group, Business Unit and Function's goals.

· Prioritize capital for sustaining and improving environmental performance and risk mitigation.

· Participate in and utilize trade associations and coalitions to advance advocacy.

· Coordinate with Rio Tinto and other Business Units on best practice strategies for License-to-Operate risk mitigation.
Utilize performance metrics to communicate, collaborate and recognize success.

· Navigate solutions to risks posed by complex regulatory and legislative initiatives with consequences to the business.

· Lead Environmental internal and external audits and risk assessments.

· Ensure that community performance expectations are met for transparency and sharing of data.
Coordinate technical information into non-technical messaging in support of Kennecott's communications strategy.

This role will require complex problem solving which includes physical monitoring of impacts; managing legal obligations; influencing environmental policy, regulations and legislation; and internal and external stakeholder relationships; and topics impacting neighboring communities.

What you'll bring
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field.
Advanced knowledge of EPA's process for promulgating regulation, legislative advocacy, and Utah Administrative Code.
Experience in developing sustainability plans with demonstrated operational risk reduction.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and plan on short and long-term horizons in coordination with operations, legal, HSE, communities and other support functions.
Strong negotiation skills.
Demonstrated ability in effective communication (verbal and written) with various stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
Demonstrated ability in effective communication with local communities
