The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado is the nation’s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. A postdoctoral position is available in NREL’s Chemistry and Nanoscience Center in the area of module reliability, and characterization of halide perovskites for solar energy applications. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal up to three years. This position will focus on two project areas with the general theme of understanding perovskite based solar cell performance and reliability. One half of the project will focus on complete characterization of the active layer to understand the influence on the devices long term stability. Activities will include stability testing of perovskite based devices and chemical characterization of the active layer. The second half of the project will support a larger effort to develop tests capable of assessing lifetime an field performance of perovskite based modules. Activities will include indoor and outdoor testing of perovskite modules, and characterization of failure modes/mechanisms. The candidate will be expected to interact with both the module reliability and perovskite teams. The collaborative environment requires a candidate who has the ability to interface with researchers of different disciplines and to learn topics outside their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to communicate their results through journal publications, conference and funding agency presentations. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle waste properly and keep a clean, well-organized work environment. Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science & engineering, physics, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related field. Experience in either PV module reliability or halide perovskite device performance/characterization preferred. Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary technical projects..

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated expertise incharacterization of solar cell failure modes/mechanisms; solar cell device characterization and modeling; good writing and presentation skills; troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; dedication to a safe and clean work environment; ability to work independently or in multi-disciplinary teams and to deliver high-quality results; and experience with chemical hazard analysis.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Annual Salary Range: $68,000 - $112,200
Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
