Periodontist (part time) - School of Dental MedicineJOB SUMMARY : The part-time Periodontist is responsible for providing students with training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing and the actual treatment of assigned patients in the specialty of periodontology and implant dentistry.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise students with patient consultations regarding periodontal disease and implant dentistry;Possess skills in diagnosis and treatment planning for periodontal disease and implant dentistry;Provide dental students with basic clinical training in periodontal disease and implant dentistry;Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases of teeth, oral soft and hard tissues;Examine patients and interpret radiographs to assist in determining extent of tissue breakdown;Diagnose and treat inflammatory and destructive diseases of the gingiva and teeth;Prescribe and administer medications in treatment of diseases and infection of the oral cavity;Instruct patients in oral hygiene and dental preventive measures;Provide consultation services on an as needed basis;Teach General Dentistry Faculty basic periodontal diagnosis, treatment planning and clinical procedures;Possess excellent communication and patient interpersonal skills to instruct dental students in selecting, obtaining and interpreting patient data for comprehensive assessment;Maintain and improve product quality by completing audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with faculty members to ensure training methods are developed and maintained;Update job knowledge by studying trends and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations;Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new requests; exploring opportunities to add value;Contribute to overall student success, including advising and outcomes;Contribute to the Mission of LECOM by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;Participate in scholarly activity to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;Be actively involved in the community, including serving on Boards and participating in community fundraisers;Take direction and receive assignments from Supervisor or management personnel;Be available for work during assigned hours for student instruction and practice development;Accept other duties as assigned;KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Computer experience in the dental or related field for axiUm program entry;Knowledge of Patient Relations and Scheduling;Knowledge of ADA Coding;Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols;Knowledge of patient's privacy (HIPAA) and student privacy (FERPA);Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines;Strong communications skills and computer literacy (MS Office Suite and accurate data entry skills);Excellent organizational skills;Attention to detail;Trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;Maintain an established work schedule;Effectively use interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy;Effectively use organizational and planning skills;Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands;Maintain confidentiality of work-related information;Establish and maintain effective working relationships;Work cooperatively and collegially with others;Report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy;Accept work directives from managers and supervisors respectfully;Supervise dental students in the LECOM Dental Group Practice on an appointment basis;Be flexible to accept other duties as needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: a Periodontist with a D.D.S.
or D.M.D.
degree with advanced training from an ADA-accredited college or university and a certificate certifying successful completion of said program is required.
Diplomate status with the American Board of Periodontology is preferred but not mandatory.
A Florida dental license is required.
