The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Part-Time Correctional Officer with the Police Department. The work in this class involves a variety of duties connected with the operation of the jail and the safety and security of inmates in the city jail. The Part-Time Correctional Officer performs intermediate protective service and human support work. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Jail Superintendent. The employeecompletes inmate intake, books and searches prisoners; fingerprints prisoners; issues clothing and assigns quarters; inspects prisoners quarters to detect possession by prisoners of any unauthorized objects; supervises inmate jail cleaning and maintenance activities. The Part-Time Correctional Officer also escorts inmates to and from medical, dental, and work detail assignments as necessary; escorts prisoners to and from cells; performs periodic inmate compliance checks at work sites; releases prisoners as directed by higher authority; and coordinates with state and local authorities; maintains records and makes reports as required; data entry. The employee processes and screens inmate mail; observes and assesses inmate behavior for signs of potential suicide, violent behavior, etc.; identifies and communicates operational and organizational safety and security concerns; performs related work as required.
Requirements for Education and Experience: completion of high school or GED and some work experience;twenty-one (21) years of age or older;no visible tattoos when wearing uniform with short sleeves; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certification of basic Correctional Officer comes within one year after date of employment. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
