Job Description Position Overview: Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects or services. Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying and implementing safe and efficient manufacturing methods.

Essential Job Functions

Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects or services, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes.

Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.

Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors and determining cost effectiveness.

Conducts time and motion studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.

Consults with clients, vendors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Prepare CNC Programs

Create manufacturing plans and part travelers/routers incorporating customer specifications and requirements.

Interpret customer requirements and communicate with shop employees on how to meet them.

Interface with vendors to insure compliance with requirements and to resolve issues.

Maintain revision control system and assist quality engineering personnel to maintain ISO/AS 9100 documentation and certification.

Specify and/or Design tools/fixtures, coordinate procurement and/or manufacture of tools/fixtures.

Reviews/documents processes to determine material and labor requirements, works with Process Engineer and Programmer to keep database information current.

Analyze, create, document and incorporate new processes into shop.

Understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance precepts and interpret their meaning for shop personnel.

Lead and/or participate in Continuous Improvement activities, to include: 6S, Kaizen Events, Team Building, and Training.

Non:essential Job Functions

May specialize according to particular service performed, type of product manufactured or phase of work involved, such as tool and fixture costs, production costs, construction costs or material costs.


Education/Experience: Bachelors Engineering Degree (B.S.E.) (Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial) or equivalent.. Five to eight years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Monitor/supervise the work of less experienced engineers and assist with training. While implementing revised or new processes, will have responsibility to supervise and train others. Periodically may be called upon to temporarily fill in for the departmental management.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Ability to use CAD/CAM software/systems, such as Solid Works, AutoCAD and MasterCam.

Ability to read and understand technical drawings and blueprints

Ability to use Microsoft Office software, i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Familiarity with API, ASME and ANSI standards.

Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability
