Job DetailsDescription
The primary function of this position is the health needs and medication administration of residents in assigned units according to the best practice in a competent and safe manner. The charge LPN will oversee completion of required documentation as well as on-going staff training and supervision of DSP?s in those units.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for thirty five or fewer residents.
Administers medications accurately in accordance with physician?s orders and facility policies and documents it on the medication record.
Must be knowledgeable of medication action, interactions, side effects and contradictions.
Supervises health care of all residents.
Cares for acutely ill residents.
Assists in care of medically involved residents.
Must be knowledgeable of the facilities nursing procedures and medical equipment utilized.
Provides medical treatment as ordered and document it on treatment sheet.
Notifies supervisor of pertinent changes in health status of residents.
Gives/receives reports to/from counterpart at shift change.
Assists in orientation and on-going staff training.
Monitors staff performance and keep necessary records.
Completes staff performance evaluations.
Oversees direct care staff?s role in implementation of active treatment program.
Interacts with each resident in a manner which assures respect, dignity, privacy and human rights.
Attends and conducts staff meetings.
Attends in-service training both in-house and through outside sources to maintain and enhance job skills.
Implements philosophies, policies and procedures of the nursing service and the facility.
Attends IDT meeting for residents in their care as needed.
Accompanies resident to physicians? visits as needed.
Be empowered and be able to empower others to be attentive to safety needs of residents (medications, physicals, etc.).
Conducts recaps, orders and treatment.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with coworkers, supervisors and directors and creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust within the department.
Is flexible to changes in duties, priorities, methods and environments.
Comes to work as scheduled, and is punctual.
Performs other related tasks as assigned and remains flexible to the diverse needs of the facility.
Competencies:
Must have knowledge of the relevant regulations of state and federal guidelines.
Skills in nursing needs of the developmentally disabled and severely involved individuals.
Skills in communication of technical and non-technical information to the staff.
Must exhibit leadership skills, particularly in mediating the differing needs and interests of residents, staff and the facility.

Education and/or Experience:
PA Practical Nursing License
Current certification in CPR
Prior experience preferred
Valid PA Driver?s License

Ability to sit 1-3 hours per day.

Ability to squat, bend and kneel for short periods of time.
