Primary Responsibilities:
Enforce laws and regulations related to immigration and border security
Patrol borders using vehicles, boats, or on foot
Inspect documents and property of individuals and vehicles
Apprehend undocumented immigrants or smugglers
Provide assistance to local law enforcement agencies when needed
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, you must have:
One year of specialized experience at the GL-9 level, including experience with searching detained persons, vehicles, and surroundings, apprehending or restraining suspects, and using firearms, writing reports, serving warrants, and gathering case evidence
Be a U.S. citizen
Have lived primarily in the U.S. for three of the last five years
Be referred before turning 40 (exceptions may apply for federal or veteran law enforcement)
Meet other requirements outlined in the job announcement
Formal Training:
After hiring, agents attend the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, NM for six months of instruction in immigration law, firearms, defensive tactics, Spanish, and more.
