Job Description:

Joel Gott Wines is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to assist our winemaking team with fruit arrivals and fermentations at our outside crush facilities and harvest grape sampling in our vineyards throughout Napa Valley. This position involves supporting the Winemaking and Vineyard team both in our lab and at our Napa crush facilities.

VINEYARD DUTIES:
* Collect vineyard samples and viticulture data
* Assess maturity and vine development and record field observations

* Perform Brix and pH analysis on vineyard samples (using DMA, refractometer, pH meter)
* Manage personal sampling schedule and coordinate daily route to ensure timely results
* Assist in processing juice samples for analysis and tasting
* Data entry of sample results and field notes

WINEMAKING DUTIES:
* Oversee initial grape receival, crushing, additions, and various aspects of wine production
* Monitor fermentations, collect tank samples, check daily Brix and temperatures
* Verify work orders and winemaking protocols are followed correctly
* Distribute samples and products between facilities as needed
* Set up laboratory trials and tastings
* Enter analysis results in winemaking database and Excel spreadsheets

REQUIREMENTS:
* B.S. in Viticulture and Enology or similar Science field (or in the process of obtaining a degree) preferred, but not required
* Previous lab/harvest experience, familiarity and experience with winemaking practices

* Viticulture coursework or equivalent previous harvest experience
* Hard working, ability to follow written and verbal instructions

* Good observation and analytical skills, proficient in MS Excel
* Good interpersonal skills, proven ability to work well with other employees
* Ability to clearly and accurately document information
* Ability to work long hours, weekends
* Extensive walking and ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
* Exposure to outside elements and physical work (lifting, bending, climbing, squatting)
