Position Overview:
The Executive Director is responsible for the delivery of high-quality programs and services to youth, ages 6-18, as well as the community relationships, financial well-being, and facility management of one of the five Clubs that make up the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB).
The Executive Director, with a Director of Operations and a full-time staff of about 15 youth development professionals, ensures the identification and implementation of objectives, standards, and practices that meet the goals of the Club and the organization, fulfill core program area objectives, and fulfill the agency mission.
The Executive Director collaborates closely with the CEO, the finance, human resources, and fundraising departments in the Main Office, as well as the community advisory board and BGCB's Board of Directors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop strategic and tactical plans for programs and services that meet BGCB objectives while incorporating resources and feedback from the membership and their families, BGCB Board Committees, the community Advisory Board, and collaborating organizations.Assume ultimate management responsibility for all staff members and volunteers working at the Club.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, hiring, salary and performance management decisions, oversight of training plans, ongoing performance assessments, and annual evaluations with the goal of developing a strong team among club staff.Develop and sustain a strong local Advisory Board.Function as the primary liaison between the Club and the BGCB Board of Directors, Advisory Board, families, and other constituencies of BGCB.Create opportunities for and maintain ongoing local and community fundraising efforts to maximize revenues, oversee expenditures to ensure consistency with budget allocations, manage cash and local revenues, and oversee other matters pertaining to the financial status of the Club.Assume the role of primary liaison to Main Office staff, responsible for communications and planning, delegating as appropriate.Provide oversight of the maintenance and upkeep of their facility ensuring that a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment is created for Club members.Represent both the Club and BGCB in their community ensuring that the interests of the youth are protected and supported.Initiate and support the development of partnerships that enhance their Club's ability to meet the developmental needs of their members.Participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.Model healthy behavior while working with our members.Embrace BGCB's focus on inclusion of all members, regardless of disability or developmental challenge.Participate in annual professional development opportunities to cultivate skills in the youth development field.Ensure BGCB remains an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.Position Requirements: Minimum five to ten years experience in directing programs, developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans, and building/managing a professional staff, preferably in human services and/or youth development.Preference for experience in working with community constituencies and diverse populations.Knowledge of youth development principles and human service delivery systems.Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to facilitate understanding across multiple audiences and inspire confidence with the community, staff, and families.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills required; MS Office and web competency required.Flexibility to work a variable schedule as dictated by programming, fundraising, and meeting schedules.Required to obtain and maintain a cellular phone and be available to respond to calls in case of emergencies.
