Job Description
The City of Saratoga Springs Public Works Department currently has an opening for an Intern/ Seasonal employee; this position is under the specific supervision of the Public Works Director. This seasonal position would be for 20-40 hour a week and performs skilled work pertaining to assistance with project tasks, construction management and administration, CAD drafting and design providing opportunities for engineering and project management experience in both the field and office environment. We will be accepting applications for this internship on a year-round basis in order for applicants to be able to plan far enough in advance of the actual time frame that they would like to begin. Each internship looks and feels different based upon the applicant"s direction, goals and schooling as well as the City"s needs. Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
~ May perform professional and technical engineering work in assigned area of responsibility including street, water and sewer engineering, capital projects, construction design and plan review, field operations and construction inspection services.
~ May assist the Public Works Director/Assistant Public Works Director to determine the scope of engineering projects, prepares requests for proposals and contracts for engineering consulting services; develops plans, specifications, diagrams, and other contract documents for a variety of engineering projects
~ Makes technical engineering decisions and establishes technical criteria and standards
~ Reviews plans of consulting engineers and private contractors and plans related to structures within the public right-of-way
~ Assist with the development and application of studies, editing and formatting of documents, and overall organization.
~ Operates light vehicles such as pickups
~ Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
Education & Experience:
~ Position is for applicant"s over 18 years of age.
~ Graduation from high school, or GED and Collegiate level Engineering.
~ Previous experience in related fields and able to demonstrate aptitude or ability to be trained and perform above or related duties is preferred.
~ Preference will be given to candidates with or pursuing a degree in engineering, pre-engineering, geography, surveying or equivalent.
Certifications Required:
~ A valid Utah Driver"s License
~ First Aid and CPR Certification (ability to obtain) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - ~ Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures
~ Ability to read and interpret standard construction plans and maps, preference will be given to candidates with experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, or Bluebeam.
~ Ability to maintain records and task lists
~ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (i.e. employees, volunteers, and the general public)
~ Ability to understand and follow oral instructions Working Conditions

There are no benefits offered as part of this position.
Schedule and Notices:
Approximately 40 hours a week, specific schedule to be set with the Supervisor upon hiring; students may apply to work a reduced work week while enrolled in school. Disclaimer
