Summary 13; The Echocardiographer: Credential Eligible is responsible for performing echocardiogram and exercise echocardiogram examinations, including color flow mapping, cardiac doppler imaging and 2:D m:mode, without the assistance of a cardiologist, on assigned patients. Must have one of the following educational requirements:

1. A two year allied health program that is patient related. Allied health occupations include, but not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, Rad Tech, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Registered Nurse.

2. Graduate of an accredited program in diagnostic cardiac or medical sonography or cardiac ultrasound (program of at least 12 months)

3. Associates or Bachelorss degree in health, science, natural science, nursing , or relevant field.


Meets all qualification prerequisites for credentialing examination in Echo through ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS). Within two years from date of hire, must obtain Certification and registration as Echocardiographer by ARDMS (RDCS)in Adult echo or Pediatric Echo or CCI (RCS).

Effective June 1, 2018: New Hires and Transfers are required to have current AHA Heartsaver Certification.






Associates in this job prior to 3/22/08 will qualify with H.S. diploma.

:Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
:Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
:Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
:Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of work flow.

Key Job Responsibilities 13;
:Performs routine, emergency, Doppler, and special (including Contrast Echos and TEE Echos) procedures on patients without the assistance of a cardiologist or other physician. Prepares position of patients before examination, taking into account acoustical window, lung interference, patients size, rib interspace distance, and the possibility of congenitally abnormal anatomy. Explains procedure to patient and answers patients questions.
:Attends and participates in, as a member or chairperson, in departmental/hospital committees or group meetings as appointed or assigned. Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities.
:Demonstrates effective customer relations skills, promotes a positive work environment, and contributes to the overall team effort.
:In emergency situations, initiates code procedures, administers first aid or CPR as indicated.
:Cleans equipment; performs minor repairs; reports the need for any major repairs.
:Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Physical Requirements 13;
:The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
:Must have good balance and coordination.
:The physical requirements of this position are: medium work : exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
:The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
:Frequent invasive and non:invasive patient contact.
:Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
:Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
