Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Shall have an unrestricted, unencumbered license to practice medicine in the District of ColumbiaShall be certified in Occupational Medicine or have 3-5 years' experience and training in occupational medicineKnowledgeable of regulations and resources relating to occupational medicine such as OSHA, NIOSH, DoD, DA and Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines (ACOEM).CAOHC Certification as a Professional SupervisorHave and maintain certification in Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (BLSHCP)Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:Serves as DC Facility Occupational Medical Director and has adequate background and knowledge in the prevention of occupational diseases.Shall be available for a variety of consultative services including management consultation, training, education, evaluation of unusual event exposures, Americans with Disabilities Act consultation, worker's compensation or disability case review and medical fit-for-duty evaluations.Serves as a member of committees formed to determine policy that may require input from the Medical Director.Physical examination and emergency treatment, as appropriate, as well as preventive health screening programs, occupational health surveillance examinations, health counseling, etc.Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate resuscitative measures.Responds to emergency calls when required and renders emergency services as needed.Accompanies a nurse on all emergency calls outside of the Health Unit.Provides clinical medicine services, involving the performance of diagnostic and preventive health care.The doctor must have proficiency in use of the EKG and must be proficient in the interpretation of any other tests provided in the Health Unit or referred out by the Health Unit.The doctor must be able to suture.Evaluates and renders opinions regarding the medical aspects of fitness-for-duty exams as needed.The doctor must serve as the representative in obtaining and/or assessing medical information from physicians to reconcile OWCP cases.Evaluates health services provided by the health unit and makes recommendations to the COR about changes in service, as appropriate.Provides medical and administrative support to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) staff in connection with the EAP.Drafts articles related to occupational health in the EHS Newsletter.Drafts policies, guidelines, and procedures, and/or reviews and comments on existing policies and procedures as needed.Works with web-based computer systems, Cority Occupational Health, and Safety software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite software.Responsible for meeting, assessing, and diagnosing clients in the health unit and providing them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards.Responsible for prescribing clients with appropriate medication, treatments, health regimens and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues.Performs components of physical exams which may include, but are not limited to: Vital signs, Audiometry, Vision testing, TB skin testing.Ensures timely and accurate documentation of patient status and patient care activities including treatments, procedures, and medications prescribed.Assures personal compliance with licensing, certification, and accrediting bodies.Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays and laboratory studies and interpreting test results.Refers clients to specialists when appropriate.Analyzes reports, test results, medical records, and examinations to diagnose condition of client and to propose treatment options.Authorizes and coordinates all specialty and ancillary services.Administers topical, oral, intravenous, or intramuscular medications.Complies with federal and state privacy laws, always respecting a patient's confidentiality.Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.Ensures clinical competence and stays abreast of changes in medical management.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.Working Environment & Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment with a noise level of mostly low to moderate.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
The position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position.
The incumbent is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time.
The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations, and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
