The Director of Information Systems is responsible for overseeing the computer systems and applications/programs within the organization including directing the work of system analysts, programmers, developers and support specialists; overseeing all aspects of system applications, hardware, and architecture.
Plan, assign and direct the activities of professional and technical personnel involved in the design, development and systems analysis functions required to create, update and maintain computer applications and programs or install and implement software purchased from outside vendors
Lead and execute initiatives related to the end-user experience including project planning and tracking, meeting business requirements, testing, issue resolution and status reporting.
Work with senior leadership to assure the alignment of support strategies and plans with end user requirements
Take a lead role in the disaster recovery / business continuity planning including assisting in the development of a comprehensive plan, ensuring system capabilities and redundancies and testing the plan to ensure success
Develop, plan, and schedule the development, integration and maintenance of systems architecture
Develop project plans and timetables and coordinate with business unit and systems area representatives to assure proper planning and implementation of architecture changes
Review and analyze existing applications, programs and programs in development to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of those programs
Assign and review the design layout for programs required for special projects
Review performance of applications and programs to ensure efficiency, provide documentation, and to ensure that output meets the needs of internal and external customers
Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as it relates to technology, including researching and installing new systems
Evaluate the IT/IS division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth
Plan, develop and implement the technology budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness
Schedule upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems with little to no disruption to production
Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor?s degree in information systems/technology or related field
At least 7 years of IS/Insurance experience required
At least four years of experience with managing teams in IS / Insurance (or insurance related industry
In-depth knowledge of systems software, operations and capacity management
Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with C# and FoxPro required.
Must be willing and able to learn and adapt to new technologies with limited guidance.
