About the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs

Since its establishment in 1945, the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) has remained focused on aiding and assisting Hoosier veterans and qualified family members or survivors, who are eligible for benefits or advantages provided by Indiana and the U.S. government.

Indiana owes a great debt to its veterans, past, and present, for their personal sacrifices and dedicated service. 75 Hoosiers (1 still living) have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in testimony to their courage and sacrifices.

About the Job: 13;

The Customer Service Representative will provide customer service and assistance to veterans and their family members with applications for state and federal veteran benefits and assist them with navigating the complexities of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) Benefits, Health Care, and Cemetery Administrations. Must also be familiar with the policies and procedures of state agencies who work in conjunction with the IDVA to best serve the Veteran population in Indiana. The employee also serves as the front desk receptionist fielding and answering calls and any additional duties as needed.

A Day In The Life Of: 13;
:Assist with daily activities in the IDVA office.
:Retrieve incoming and send outgoing mail correspondence and interdepartmental mail, monitor office supply usage and reorder as needed.
:Deliver excellent customer service in person, by phone and correspondence.
:Communicate appropriately and often through phone or email to internal staff to resolve customer issues and inquiries.
:Possess the ability to empathize with customers and help resolve concerns.
:Ensure walk:ins are provided the opportunity to give feedback in regards to the service they were provided during their visit.
:Assist with other duties as needed.

:Working knowledge of eligibility requirements for all state and federal benefits.
:Assist customers with basic questions and refer them to other staff members or outside agencies as needed.
:Assist IDVA office staff as needed with outreach events, meeting coordination, assist with updating the IDVA events calendar as needed.
:Must also possess above average computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
:Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
:Extensive knowledge of program area including current and changing federal and state laws;
:Working knowledge of the organization of the agency including enabling statutes;
:Ability to implement new principles and procedures and to discern implications upon agency operations;
:Ability to interpret questions correctly;
:Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: 13;

This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.
