This position is responsible for leading the Continuous Improvement initiatives at SAFE Boats International. This position will require an experienced Lean Leader, preferably with heavy industry manufacturing background and experience. This position requires an individual that is able to facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and ever changing environment, leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills. Key to success in this position is the ability to work within the organization at all levels utilizing a very hands on approach to creating value and buy-in as the lead change facilitator for the company?s Lean transformation. This position will provide leadership, planning, technical direction, communication and coaching skills to ensure safe production of high-quality products to meet customer needs in the most cost-effective manner.
§ Drive business performance to meet the Business Goals and Objectives
§ As a member of the Leadership Team provide Leadership and Direction for Continuous Improvement
§ Give the Leadership Team guidance on C.I. Leadership, Philosophy and Approach and how to develop a culture of full team member engagement
C.I. Program Management-
§ Develop the SAFE Boats Operating System (SBOS) based on the Toyota Production System (TPS)
§ Lead, coach, and mentor team members & projects related to process transformations using Lean, project management, and change management. These projects could involve complex business problems that extend across the business enterprise and should result in improvements to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & Morale (SQCDM)
§ Work with the Company?s Functional Management Team to identify opportunities for improvement that support the company achieving its Goals and Objectives
§ Teach, by theory and by example, the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach
§ Select and manage external partners - where required
§ Prepare and manage a budget for C.I. activities
§ Plan and organize improvement events
§ Conduct reviews to assess the effectiveness of improvement activity and to draw out the lessons learned
§ Constantly review the company?s improvement activities for effectiveness and adjust the approach as required
Coaching / Training / Facilitation-
§ Deliver training in Lean Principles, C.I. tools and methods
§ Facilitate improvement meetings / events in the company
§ Coach and mentor all team members in the use of data, graphical analysis and ?speaking with facts & data'
§ Guide the team through a structured improvement process.
§ Facilitate and manage the communication of C.I. Strategy
§ Facilitate and manage the communication of C.I. activity to Director of Operations and CEO
§ Create and maintain visual displays and storyboards within the company to propagate the C.I. message and inform every one of the ongoing activities.
§ Prepare Executive Summary Reports on C.I. activity
Reporting Relationship
The Continuous Improvement Leader shall report to the Director of Operations but be accountable to the Leadership Team.
Education, Experience & Skills:
§ BS Degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business or other related field
§ Minimum 15 years? experience working in manufacturing of which 10 were in a leadership role
§ Experienced C.I. Practitioner who must have successfully used C.I. tools and methods in a manufacturing environment.
§ Must have experience successfully leading and facilitating improvement.
§ Must have understanding of statistical tools and methods and be able to coach others in structured rigorous use of data
§ Culture change: Must have experience in how to successfully manage people through change. Must understand typical resistance to change and how to overcome it.
