The Coding Specialist is a certified coder responsible for reviewing provider charges to accurately code encounters, correct coding edits, and assist with research for denied claims.
This position will assist in tracking and trending coding issuesCoding Leadership will determine specialty specific coding classification.

Code claims directly from the medical record/operative report according to coding guidelines.

Accurate and timely completion of charge reviewwork queues as assigned.

Assist with tracking and trending coding issues and research of denied claims.

Maintains compliance with established corporate and departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement program, customer service and productivity expectations.

Must be able to achieve individual quality and productivity performance metrics in daily duties as set by coding leadership.

Remains abreast of changes to current payer guidelines, Correct Coding Initiative edits, and Local/National Coverage Determinations for accuracy in coding.
Participates in all educational activities includingcoding meetings/calls as necessary to provide information relating to coding and compliance.. Communicates professionally with physicians, management, and peers.

Takes initiative for learning new skills and willingness to participate and share expertise on projects, committees and other activities as deemed appropriate.

Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.

Required Minimum Education:High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Education: 2 Year/Associates Degree

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):
Required:AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification (i.e. CPC-A, CPC, CCS-P).

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:
Minimum of 1 year coding experience or successful completion of coding curriculum.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Knowledge of Medical Terminology, IDC-10, CPT, and HCPCS.PC and Computer application knowledge and experience.Excellent skills of organization, communication, time management, financial analysis, written policy, trouble shooting and problem solving.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize needs in order to meet short and long term timelines.Mobile Phone access with adequate data to handlebusiness needs is required.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:Knowledge of or previous experience in physician procedural coding. Experience with coding software tools.Previous EPIC experience.
