The Center for Autism Research is conducting a wide range of studies seeking to identify causes of ASD, and to explore effective interventions and other supports for families throughout the region affected by ASD. We are seeking a full:time Clinical Research Assistant to collect and maintain clinical research data and work closely with our team on the acquisition of biospecimens from research participants and clinical patients. The Clinical Research Assistant will screen and consent subjects for entry into the required protocol. S/he will maintain knowledge of appropriate computer systems and enter data into study databases. The Clinical Research Assistant will frequently interact with research team and Principal Investigators and report on the conduct of the assigned protocol. S/he also will have daily contact with other physicians, nurses, patients and their families.

Prior experience with some or all of these duties is a plus but is not necessary; many of the Clinical Research Assistants duties can be learned on the job. Successful applicants will be highly self:motivated and fast learners who enjoy working in bustling research and clinical environments.
This position offers valuable clinical research experience in preparation for applying to graduate school. As a member of CAR, the CRA will have the opportunity to participate in outreach events and attend lectures and seminars on recent findings in autism research, allowing exposure to scientific and clinical leaders in the field.

Job Responsibilities (Continued) 13;

Screen potential research participants and clinical patients for enrollment in study biorepository.

Schedule and participate in visits with research participants and clinical patients in order for bio:specimens to be collected. Visits may occur on the CHOP campus and at external satellite sites.

Consent participants and research families for enrollment in the study biorepository.

Following collection of biosample, the Clinical Research Assistant will work with families and participants to complete required questionnaires and ensure that all data collection instruments are administered and complete.

Collect and maintain study data as required for specific clinical research protocols.

Function independently in patient care areas including the outpatient ambulatory areas, Outpatient care units, satellite clinics, and individuals homes to collect specific study data, under the supervision and guidance of others.

Utilize appropriate resources, including other Clinical Research Assistants, research team, and PIs to collect data accurately and completely.

Enter information in computer databases for the study in a timely manner

Provide information on the data collected to appropriate persons as directed.

Provide timely information to the Principal Investigator on the progress of data collection for the study.

Communicate any difficulties or problems in collecting data as prescribed immediately to the team leaders and/or PI.

Assist with collection and delivery of biologic specimens, such as saliva.

Assist with quality improvement activities as related to research protocols

Help to develop systems by which quality becomes continuous

Perform chart and data reviews to assess compliance of data with IRB and other regulatory agencies

Job Responsibilities (Continued) 13;

Bachelors degree in biology, psychology, child development, special education, or a related field. Research and/or clinical experience working with children with developmental disorders and/or autism spectrum disorder preferred.

Experience with project coordination preferred.

Experience working with children, adolescents or adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental disorder, and their families or service:providers, is preferred.
