The PositionNOTE: THESE POSITIONS ARE UNCLASSIFIED, NON-CIVIL SERVICE, HOURLY POSITIONS. INDIVIDUALS IN THESE POSITIONS MUST BE ABLE TO WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS
Under general supervision, this entry level classification assists with the operation of the Civic Auditorium, and other city facilities and/or citywide special events.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs general maintenance of the Civic Auditorium, other city facilities and during special citywide events. This includes, but is not limited to: cleaning restrooms, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and vacuuming offices, washing windows, removing trash, changing light bulbs, painting, setting-up and distributing electrical power as needed, before, during and after each event.
Sets up and removes tables, chairs, risers, P/A sound equipment, and other heavy equipment which may weigh up to 80 pounds.
Transports, deploys, and operates stage facilities, lighting equipment, or audio and visual equipment.
Drives various types of vehicles and trucks to deliver and pick up equipment citywide.
Hauls, delivers and/or unloads trash, debris, and/or equipment such as tables, chairs, sound system, video equipment, canopies, staging, and generators.
Assists in staffing a park, picnic, or other special events at City facilities.
May be required to attend and complete various training classes. May collect parking fees and assist civic office services employees to reconcile deposits, and may be asked to operate the parking booth (collect money for guest parking) on an as needed basis.
Notifies supervisor of any accidents, incidents, and/or injuries, and any problems or repairs needed to equipment or facilities.
Opens up buildings and facilities for events and is responsible for proper closing procedures. Performs routine inspections of public buildings and facilities in an attempt to maintain cleanliness.
Works directly with the public and provides services as needed.
Monitors and operates stage lighting and audio-visual equipment.
Operates and maintains vehicles assigned to the Civic Auditorium as well as heavy power equipment, and hand tools. This includes, but is not limited to: Operating a scissor lift, stripper machine, buffers, pallet jack, as well as driving crew cab trucks, extended vans, and/or stakebed trucks to deliver and pick up equipment citywide.
Performs physical labor for sustained periods, including heavy and moderate lifting.
Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.Minimum RequirementsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
Basic math, such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Cash handling procedures and basic accounting practices.
Safety practices applicable to setting up and removing events.
Ability to:
Complete and pass driver's training certified course.
Deal effectively with individuals and groups and provide a high level of customer service.
Deploy and operate audio-visual equipment.
Develop necessary skills from on-the-job training and meet standards of performance for the classification by the end of the probationary period.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
Lift, carry and move heavy objects, including tables, chairs and cleaning equipment, which may weigh up to 80 pounds.
Operate city vehicles, large and mid size trucks and vans used for delivery and pick up of citywide special events or projects.
Operate equipment used in setting up and moving events.
Perform moderately heavy tasks.
Read, write, communicate, and follow directions effectively in English.
Read, write, measure, sketch, and interpret trade show and citywide special event floor plans and diagrams.

Maintain a flexible work schedule.
May be required to attend training as needed.
Experience
One year of recent, paid work experience working directly with the general public, performing general maintenance, and/or event set-up in a multipurpose public assembly or special event.
Education/Training
Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.
License(s)/Certification(s)
Valid Class C California driver's license.
Note
