The primary purpose of the Associate Director, Police Technology and Administrative Support position is to provide responsible leadership and management to The University of Texas Police at Houston (UTP:H) Administrative, Technological, and Support Services. Responsible for coordinating the objectives of the police departments Combined Protection Model throughout the Texas Medical Center, Bastrop/Smithville and Houston Area Location campuses.


Leadership and Administration
Provides leadership to and management of assigned personnel through clear direction, communication, development opportunities, and ongoing feedback.
Develops and implements security staffing models in alignment with UTP:H operational and strategic goals.
Responsible for strategic execution, planning, budgeting, and monitoring of institutional security programs and technologies.
Plans, organizes, assigns and supervises departmental activities designed to enhance the patient experience through strategic initiatives and programs.

Technology and System Configuration
Provides leadership, knowledge, and change management support for public safety technology initiatives.
Responsible for workflow and process designs impacting the public safety program.
Implements and administers the use of the technology portfolio assigned to the public safety program.
Provides input for departmental strategy and technology expenditures.
Visitor Management and Institutional Tours
Aligns threat and risks exposures with the technological requirements needed to improve the Institutions overall security posture and visitor management initiatives.
Provides direction and oversees the implementation of all technology projects associated with departmental and institutional visitor management projects.
Directs UTP:H operations and logistical responsibilities in facilitating and supporting Institutional clinical, laboratory, and other security sensitive area Institutional tours.
Oversees the security assessment process of tour participants and addresses an security concerns as required by policy.
Makes determination of required security personnel needed during an Institutional tour to ensure campus safety.
Emergency Management and Special Response
Represents UTP:H to other internal and external entities, law enforcement agencies and to department management in emergency situations.
Coordinates efforts with command level police personnel to include material data collection and retrieval for field personnel assignment and tactical planning.
Provides leadership for UTP:H Special Response Team and identifies training and other program needs.
Management Tasks
Analyzes and evaluates the performance of departmental goals and objectives.
Observes and evaluates departmental operations for efficiency and effectiveness. Prepares and reviews various reports and makes recommendations.
Develops and administers training and practical exercise programs.
Collects data, analyzes, and makes recommendations on security related performance and value measures.
Prepares work schedules and assigns overtime; approves the use of vacation leave.

Other Duties as Assigned

Including, but not limited to:
Emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man:made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus.
Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.

Required: Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
Preferred: Masters degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.

Required: Seven years of management experience in law enforcement and/or security industry.
Preferred: Ten years of management experience in law enforcement and/or security industry.

Required: Valid Texas drivers licens
