Title: Assistant Title Officer (ATO) Job Summary: The Assistant Title Officer is responsible to help clear title to accomplish the real estate closing transaction for insuring title insurance. This position requires the Assistant Title Officer to work closely with the Title Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Review title orders within company guidelines to determine the conditions of the title and insurability by considering the effect of documents and other matters of record
Explain chain of title, exceptions, and requirements to customers
Recognize title defects and formulate curative requirements
Prepare an accurate and compressive updated or 2nd title commitment by researching, analyzing and evaluating pertinent record documents
Work closely with the customer and escrow staff to meet time requirements for options, and assist with answering questions
Prepares supplemental reports, endorsements, billings and letters as directed.
Opens new title order requests
Compiles data based on research techniques for information relating to taxes, date downs for titles, judgments or verification or location of other records or information
Performs title searches on names runs and working on clearing numerous matters of record against common names
Answers telephone and takes messages or routes calls to the appropriate individual
Responds to mail and email inquiries promptly and accurately.
Perform other duties assigned by manager

Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
General knowledge of practices and procedures of the industry, department or specialized function.
Basic examining skills which includes the ability to perform title searches, verifying, reviewing and compiling information including but not limited to, geographic information, property surveys and legal description, title orders, customer information, ownership histories, physical address, etc.
Familiar with issuing of title policies and endorsements
Good client relations and organizational skills
Expert computer skills including working knowledge of MS Office software packages, internet applications and/or company specific databases and other office equipment
Ability to read and understand documents and basis real estate laws
Skilled in prioritizing work to meet stringent deadlines and work in team-oriented environment.
Self-motivated and illustrates a commitment to customer service
Detail-oriented and professional; able to handle confidential information
Strong communication, both verbal and written
Ability to deal with multiple types of roles such as real estate sellers, buyers, agents and brokers and attorneys
Self-motivated and illustrates a commitment to customer service
Understanding of our underwriter?s rate schedule

Education and Experience:
High school graduated or GED required
Preferred formerly a title examiner or has examining experience
Minimum of 1+ years? experience in title closings which include experience in the title industry

Supervisory Responsibility of Job:
Performs own work and provides assistance to others as directed
