Details of the offer

General Summary of PositionThis position performs various legal administrative duties in the District Attorney's Office. This position requires the ability to work with limited supervision and possess knowledge of established department procedures, laws and statues. Daily contact with highly confidential information pertaining to victim and witnesses, as well as defendants, and the ability to maintain confidentiality for the protection of those involved in criminal prosecution cases and for the integrity of the case. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. Must provide truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.

Tentative testing dates will be December 12-18, 2019

Runs criminal histories and driving records through the TIME System and CCAP to aid in prosecution.

Receives, processes and enters incoming referrals.

Monitors traffic/forfeiture citations.

Enters court notes and runs weekly reports in case management system.

Monitors settlement offers in traffic cases.

Coordinates Bail Hearings with courts.

Prepares monthly vouchers and balances office checkbook.

General Job FunctionsDrafts and transcribes various legal documents and correspondence.

Prepares case files.

Process fingerprint cards.

Process jury lists.

Training, Experience, Knowlege, Skills & AbilitesTraining and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.

Three (3) years of responsible legal office experience along with knowledge of legal terminology in the Criminal Justice System.

Must obtain basic certification in the Wisconsin TIME System within one (1) year of hire.

At least one (1) year of accounts payable experience required.

A minimum of three (3) years of progressive office work experience, computers and secretarial skills are required for this position.

Ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute determined by a standard keyboard test.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities RequiredAbility to operate all office equipment accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed. These items include computer terminal, copy and fax machine, calculator, dictation machine and scanner. Possess knowledge of legal office procedures and policies.

Ability to work with limited supervision and make accurate decisions in regard to routine department issues.

Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.

Training in basic bookkeeping or accounting and knowledge of business English, grammar and vocabulary.

Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public

Knowledge of department terminology, rules, policies and regulations.

Knowledge of OWI and OAR laws and statutes, keeping up on the constant changes.

Capable of typing difficult and complex information from either rough draft or dictation machine at a moment's notice and being able to multi-task while possessing good organizational skills.

Certification in the TIME System every 2 years.

Ability to learn and comprehend several computer programs and use proficiently.

Physical & Working ConditionsNearly 100% of time work is performed in a normal office setting with little or no discomfort from temperature, dust or noise. Interacting with other employees, general public, whether walking in or on the telephone may be encountered.
Over 75% of work is performed seated at a desk, working on a computer keyboard and/or telephone with about 10% of work performed standing and walking. Over 75% of the work is performed by talking, hearing, and using both far and near vision. Occasional lifting is required up to 10 lbs. (i.e. paper and equipment).
In an effort to provide for continuity of County government and to cope with the problems of the emergency, you may be required to work during a proclaimed state of emergency, consistent with Sec. 323.14, Wis. Stats. and County emergency management plans and programs.
