Job Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Accounting Manager oversees general ledger and accounts payable functions of the organization. Prepares, or directs preparation of, reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings, based on past, present and expected operations. Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies and arrange for audits of company accounts. Oversees the books and records of Selfhelp and its affiliates. Directs and coordinates the activities of systems and workers engaged in designing, developing and maintaining the agency?s integrated finance and accounting system by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.
Job Responsibilities
Directs the duties of subordinates, including assigning duties, monitoring work, providing feedback, and completing evaluations.
Directs the accounts payable function of the organization and supervises the accounts payable staff
Works with the Holocaust Survivor Program to establish budgets, reporting and tracking of all grants/income sources.
Oversee the real estate accountant and establish procedures for the recording of real estate transactions.
Oversee entering of source data and programs into computer, analyze output to identify existence and nature of problems, and orders indicated corrections to design or program.
Compile and issue required monthly reports.
Meets all department reporting deadlines.
Compile composite reports from individual reports of subordinates required by management or government agencies.
Installs and updates a quality management system for all direct reports.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.Knowledge, Skills And RequirementsBachelor?s degree in accounting or finance; seven years of directly related experience, with two years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Non Profit experience is a must.
CPA/MBA preferred.
Extensive computer knowledge and experience in PC use, including, but not limited to spreadsheet analysis, word processing, accounting software (Quick Books) and general PC operation.
Must understand all aspects of accounting principles.
Demonstrated ability to independently undertake and complete cost accounting projects, perform unit cost and variance analysis.
